Explorers
Explorer Scouts are young people aged 14 - 18 years of age, we are the second oldest section of the Scout movement.
Our place in the Scouting Family Tree
We are a district unit and work with all the
groups within Kingswood.
When we meet
We meet for approximate. 1 ½ hours per week depending on which
activity and unit you decide to join. We have 3 units in Kingswood and there is
something on each week to suit all.
Our uniform
Explorer Scouts wear a smart uniform made up of a
sweatshirt or polo shirt, navy cargo trousers and a unit neckerchief. On most activity nights no uniform is worn at all
except for the unit neckerchief.
Not sure where the badges go? Visit this page.
Your first night at Explorers
When joining, you have most likely come with friends
so they will look after you. if you do not know any other Explorer Scouts you
will be given a buddy to look after you.
In your first four weeks at Explorer Scouts you will join in all the fun activities. The leaders will help you come to know the team and members in the unit. The leaders will also help you out finding the activities available in the other units and how you can attend any off them each week. During the four weeks if you are new to Scouting the leaders will help you to achieve the following
- Know and understand the Explorer Scout Promise and Motto
- Know the meaning of the badges that you will receive at the investiture ceremony.
- The general knowledge of the family of Scouts, world-wide Scouting and the history of Scouting
- The next stage is to become an Explorer Scout by making the Promise
- You just need to let the Explore Scout Leader what type of event you want your investiture to be.
The Unit Programme
The Explorer Scouts set a 12 week structured
programme, with the help of an Explorer Scout Leader
Explorer Scout meetings are always fun packed, fast moving evenings. As well at the same time developing skills for life.
The leaders encourage Explorer Scouts to make suggestions for activities. Make time to share their news and views. They accept Explorer Scouts as they are, celebrating their achievements and emerging talents, supporting their weaknesses and needs.
All the units run separate programmes which you are allowed to pick and choose what you attend
The Leaders
The leadership team is made up of several Explorer
Scout Leaders who are all fully trained. They also have activity helpers.
All leaders/parents involved with the unit will fill in a Criminal Record Check form before an offer of help can be accepted.
